Ashley De Vor is a 31 year-old American artist born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona where she currently lives and works.
De Vor grew up with an artistic mother and sister, as well as an engineer father who was highly skilled in his various crafts. She was inspired to draw from an early age by simple sibling rivalry and boredom. She would draw every day from fashion magazines of her favorite celebrities. It wasn't until her junior year of high school that she started to take art classes and enter competitions. Since the age of 15 she continued to sell her work and draw every day with a dream of some day being in Juxtapoz Magazine, which she was eventually featured in by the age of 18. She attended Phoenix College briefly after graduating high school, but left after two years without completion of degree due to the fact that her teachers started asking her to teach her own classmates. She became a tattoo apprentice for two and a half years, but later decided to branch out on her own, taking a whole new drawing style along with her. She started professionally showing at various art galleries and selling her work around the valley in 2009.
De Vor's work contains contrasting themes of both beauty and horror, conveying a different perspective of things that most people would consider to be "odd" or "macabre". Her detailed imagery is drawn with meticulous precision onto thick toned paper, along with either a vivacious color palette or muted four toned palette which she finds depicts two very different sides of her personality. Her work displays a mixture of both femininity and masculinity, with strong bold lines and subjects moving alongside long, flowing shapes and soft shading. Her creative influences include comic book artists such as Alex Ross, Gojin Ishihara, and J.H. Williams III, vintage horror posters, Greek mythology, and various modern female artists such as Nomi Chi and Camille Rose Garcia. Her personal works depict various legends and horror story characters, as well as animals, anatomy, and strong female figures.
Ashley likes cooking, gardening, watching movies with her dog Sputnik, video games, murder mysteries, and a good whiskey.
